Check out the Fantom Air, a motorboat with a Porsche Macan EV heart

Austrian shipyard Frauscher has collaborated with Porsche on a limited edition of its Frauscher 858 Fantom Air motorboat. The special model is called 850 Fantom Air and runs on pure electricity instead of fossil fuel. Porsche says the powertrain stems from its new Macan EV, which has not been introduced yet.

Among other things, the SUV has donated its 544-PS (536-hp / 400-kW) synchronous motor and 100-kWh battery pack. Equipped with these, the boat has a cruising speed of 45 km/h (28 mph) and runs out of charge after 45 km (28 miles) of sailing. The manufacturer points out that it will not necessarily drain its batteries dry every hour: in typical use scenarios, many owners will be able to get 100 km (62 miles) or more from a single charge, which amounts to a lot on water.

The 850 Fantom Air provides a selection of powertrain modes ranging from Economy to Sport to accommodate different needs. For instance, engaging the Sport mode will boost the top speed to 85 km/h (nearly 53 mph), and switching to a mode called Mooring will cap it at 15 km/h (9 mph) for precise maneuvering. With 800 volts of power on board, the boat will support charging sources rated up to 250 kW and replenish its charge from 10 to 80 percent within 30 minutes or so.

Porsche has designed the cabin trim, too, giving the motorboat its signature steering wheel and dashboard, as well as custom seats styled to look like those of a sports car.

The boat is 8.67 meters (28.44 feet) long and seats up to nine passengers. It provides a diving platform, sun loungers, folding awnings and a premium audio system. For the time being, the manufacturer only has plans for one production batch limited to 25 units. Prices start from €561,700, and pre-orders are already running.
