Europe adopts new vehicle cybersecurity laws

The updated cybersecurity regulations affecting all motorized vehicles will enter into force mid-summer, forcing companies to either comply or discontinue their cars in the EU.

Starting from July 7, 2024, all vehicles must pass two compliance tests. First, they must be strictly controlled by their respective manufacturers. Second, they must support safe and error-free software updates.

The impending legislation changes have already led to Porsche pulling the 718 and the first-generation Macan from the EU market. Audi, Renault and Volkswagen are also getting ready to discontinue certain models no longer meeting the requirements.
