The launch of the Taycan EV saw many Porsche fans worried about the future of the Panamera, a model quite similar to it in size and design. Now, CEO Oliver Blum has given us reason to hope both will continue to be available side-by-side.
While it is true that the battery sedan is similarly styled to the Panamera liftback, and the high-riding Cros Turismo wagon looks much like the Panamera Sport Turismo, the two models still occupy different market niches. The Panamera is a more upmarket vehicle than the Taycan, and it should become even more of a luxury item in its next generation.
Blum never revealed whether the next generation would hold on to its internal combustion engine range or become partly – or even fully – electrified.
Porsche expects 80% of its total sold cars to be electrified by late 2020s, and the rest 20% mostly represented by various 911 modifications. The legendary 911 is the one model the executives of the German automaker cannot even imagine without an IC engine.
