Continental GT and Panamera recalled over fire risks

Coolant leaks due to a faulty pump could lead to your Bentley Continental GT or Porsche Panamera burning down, the two carmakers have announced simultaneously. The recall campaign will affect around 24,000 cars.

Apparently, the pump housing could break causing the liquid to leak onto electrical parts and shorting them out, potentially causing a serious fire. Affected owners may find out about the issue early by the HVAC system acting up – the first sign of a short. Those lucky enough to be driving a Bentley Continental W12 may want to stop as soon as the ‘Check Engine’ light comes up.

The recall encompasses 650 Bentley Continental GT coupes and convertibles made from June 2019 until July 2020. In turn, Porsche will be recalling 24,467 Panamera models in various specs and configurations made in 2017–2021. Porsche says all affected owners will be asked to visit a dealership for a free pump replacement and wiring check-up. As for Bentley, it has provided no details regarding the troubleshooting method so far.
