The third generation of the Porsche Panamera will ship with two new part-electric powertrains to choose between. You can already pre-order them, but sales in Europe won’t begin until the second quarter.
The cheapest Panamera utilizes a non-electrified 2.9-liter turbocharged V6. Both new specs – the 4 E-Hybrid and the 4S E-Hybrid – complement this engine with a single electric motor capable of 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque.
he model 4 gets a total of 470 PS (464 hp / 346 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. This lets it sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds and ultimately reach 280 km/h (174 mph).
The model 4S takes things further with 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) heading for the wheels. It reduces the sprint time to 3.7 seconds and raises the top speed by a further 10 km/h (6 mph).
Both hybrids benefit from a 45% larger battery pack than before. Rated at 25.9 kWh, it lets the 4 E-Hybrid cover up to 93 km (57.8 miles) in all-electric mode. Its senior cousin gets 90 km (67 mi). You can charge it using the on-board 11kW charger or through regenerative braking. Opting for the charger will max out the battery in 2 hours 40 minutes.
The on-board electronic system supports four drive modes optimized for performance, range and anything in between. The system is linked to sat-nav so it can automatically pick the best mode based on the need for charging.
At the base trim level, both hybrids get adaptive air suspension with dual-valve shocks. You can pay extra for a system called Active Ride, which integrates the shocks into the entire hydraulic system of the car. Further options include carbon-ceramic brakes with colorful ten-piston calipers, 21-inch wheels and Matrix LED headlights.
