Porsche says the V8 isn’t going away anytime soon

The German sports car maker says it will not ditch V8 engines until at least the next decade.

According to Thomas Freimuth, Product Line VP at Porsche, the four-liter, twin-turbo V8 that the company is currently using in its cars is almost compliant with the strictest Euro-7 standards. It just needs to be dialed down a bit in terms of exhaust noise – and that’s it.

Still, taking the company’s product strategy from the last year into consideration, it looks like the V8s will not be common anymore. By 2030, Porsche plans to gradually phase out combustion engines replacing them with smaller ones and electric motors. EVs should amount to 80% of all vehicles produced by that year – it’s a strategic goal that still stands even as EV adoption rates slow down.
