Taycan underway to becoming the new Porsche golden standard

The new Porsche Taycan won’t premiere until a month later, but the company says it has already received nearly 30,000 pre-orders. This is comparable with the total annual sales numbers of the Porsche’s single most popular line, the 911 (35,600 cars sold in 2018). At the dawn of the all-electric transportation era, the Taycan may very well become the new icon of the German luxury brand.

Porsche seems positive that the EV will sell more copies in its debut year than the 911. Market analysts appear to agree, saying they expect around 40,000 copies to be sold.

The commercial success of the battery-powered sports car is important news for the entire Volkswagen Group and not just Porsche. Since the popularity of environmentally clean transports is steadily growing as it is, the Taycan may become the new trend leader, popularizing EVs further and helping VW AG fill the market with their own offers.

Once the car ships, customers will be able to choose from three trim versions. The top trim will pack a 600-hp (447-kW) powertrain and a traction battery sufficient for 500 kilometers (310 miles) of range.
