Video: Three high-performance EVs race each other on a drag strip

The CarWOW channel on YouTube has released a new video featuring an Audi e-tron GT, a Porsche Taycan and a Tesla Model S in an acceleration race. All three cars pack dual electric motors and AWD.

The Audi RS e-tron GT is the German marque’s first production sedan powered by batteries. It came a bit late to the party compared to its rivals and offers less raw power than they do, maxing out at 646 PS (637 hp / 475 kW) and 830 Nm (612 lb-ft) of torque. The curb weight amounts to 2,340 kilograms (5,159 lbs). Prices in the UK start from nearly £112,000.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo is technically related with the Audi, but has more thrust at 687 PS (678 hp / 505 kW) and 850 Nm (827 lb-ft). It also weighs more at 2,380 kg (5,247 lbs) and is marginally more expensive at just under £116,000.

Despite its age, the Tesla Model S Performance still manages to impress. It packs 778 PS (767 hp / 572 kW) and 1,140 Nm (841 lb-ft) of torque in a package that weighs in at 2,316 kg (5,106 lbs) and starts from £70,000.

The outcome of the race was ultimately determined by the reaction speed of individual drivers. One of the attempts culminated in a 0.1-second gap between all three contestants. The standing race proved to be the most difficult for the U.S.-made battery sedan due to its relatively low top speed. Braking path lengths turned out similar, with around ten meters (32 feet) between the best and the worst result.
