Headlight thieves cut a Porsche Taycan to bits

These images of a downright mutilated Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo were made in Düsseldorf, Germany earlier this week and went viral on Reddit. Apparently, thieves came after the electric wagon’s expensive headlights, but couldn’t pry them off easily enough and decided to cut through the bodywork.

The incident must have happened at night while the owner slept. One Taycan headlight unit costs a whopping $3,800, but the car now needs a whole bunch of repairs worth an order of magnitude more than that.

Whoever massacred this EV cut straight through the fenders and the frunk lid, and most likely damaged the front bumper as well. If you consider all the smaller parts and electronics under all that metal, the restoration may easily come in at several dozen thousand euros.

Commenters on Reddit have pointed out that the thieves left the pricey alloy wheels intact. The reasons for this are unknown, but we suspect they were either in a hurry after failing to extract the headlights quickly or couldn’t afford to carry any more.
Either way, it’s a sad situation for the owner.
