Novelties
The Geely Coolray is sold under the name “Proton X50” in Malaysia, and it has just undergone a mid-life refresh.
The crossover SUV now runs with four cylinders under the hood instead of three, but the displacement stays the same at 1.5 liters. Commanding 181 PS (179 hp / 131 kW), the new engine takes the car from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.6 seconds. The old version could barely manage 7.9 seconds.
Other than that, the X50 looks identical to the Geely Binyue L a.k.a. Coolray for China. This applies to both the exterior and the cabin. You can still tell it from the pre-facelift version by a larger radiator grille and a bigger 14.6-inch infotainment display in the cabin instead of the old 12.3-inch one. Less noticeable changes include 18-inch standard wheels, slightly redesigned taillights, a revamped dashboard and new trimming materials.
