U.S. truck manufacturer Ram has told us an interesting story about a new feature soon to become available for its 1500 pickup family. These are the four ways to access the truck bed using the rear dropside in the new version:
• drop both the left and the right pane down all the way, forming a flat platform;
• swing one pane open like a door;
• swing both panes open;
• use the new Hands-free Open function.
The feature is called Multifunction Tailgate and will soon arrive priced at around U.S. $1,000. The power-assisted stepping board costs another $300.
This latest release by Ram more or less mirrors the MultiPro Tailgate option available for GMC Sierra pickup trucks. A special construction enables the truck owner to easily transform the rear dropside into access steps or a workbench.
