The Ram 1500 TRX rightfully counts among the craziest pickups money can buy, but Hennessey Performance simply cannot leave good enough alone.
The tuner received the car a few days ago and put it on a dyno to see how well the claimed performance figures correlate with the actual power and torque hitting the wheels. The manual states the truck has 712 PS (702 hp / 524 kW) and 881 Nm (650 lb-ft) of torque. Measurements at the wheels showed 591 PS (583 hp / 435 kW) and 773 Nm (570 lb-ft), which corresponds to transmission losses of about 17%. Such losses are expected and are considered entirely within the norm.
Hennessey’s take on the Ram TRX will be called the Mammoth, and it will take advantage of a particularly powerful supercharger setup, new belts and cylinder heads, a redesigned exhaust system, and assorted control software tweaks. The target figures are 1,025 PS (1,012 hp / 755 kW), 1,314 Nm (969 lb-ft) of torque, and acceleration from zero to 60 mph (0-97 km/h) in 3.2 seconds.
Also on the to-do list are a lift kit, a new front bumper with LED DRLs, 20-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch off-road rubber, and a front-axle suspension adjustment kit.
Last but by no means least, Hennessey plans to release a six-wheeled version of the truck powered by a monstrous 7.0-liter Hellephant V8 with around 1,200 hp (900 kW) at the crank. Availability dates are pending.
