Hennessey Performance may be making some of the most powerful road-legal vehicles in the USA, but it doesn’t mean there is no exports. For instance, a Finnish dealership called Netti Auto is selling a Hennessey Mammoth 1000 truck right now – but there is a catch.
The asking price of €249,000 is supported by a vast list of upgrades the tuner installed on the truck, but the maximum speed is stated as 90 kilometers per hour, or just 56 mph. Could it be a mistake?
Alas, no. Even the regular Ram TRX can do 190 km/h (118 mph), and the Mammoth should be way faster than that one thanks to its engine boosted to 1,000 U.S. horsepower (1,000 hp / 746 kW). It is not, however, and the reason is prosaic: prohibitive taxes.
All performance vehicles imported from the States are subject to a 44.8% import tax unless they are hard-capped at 90 km/h (56 mph). The importer of this Ram pickup willingly chose to cripple it just for the sake of saving on the tax.
