A pre-production pickup truck has been spotted recently in northern Sweden that looked like a younger cousin of the Ram 1500. Rumor has it that the model will debut in late 2023 and go on sale in 2024 called either ‘Ram Dakota’ or ‘Ram 1200’.
The prototype was spied testing alongside other Stellantis Group vehicles, including a Fiat Toro truck (in the video below). According to unofficial reports, the Ram 1200 will be based on the Toro platform, but will benefit from significant modifications, especially in the drivetrain department.
As of right now, though, the thick camo visible in the shots prevents us from drawing any conclusions. The Jeep-style headlamps are obviously fake/temporary, and there is a massive radiator grille with horizontal bars at the front that’s barely visible through the disguise.
A glance from the side reveals quite a bit of ground clearance. We heard tell that the alleged Ram 1200 runs on the Small Wide 4x4 platform and is a capable off-roader, so this at least checks out.
Engine-wise, we expect several options including a 2.2-liter turbo diesel rated at 203 PS (200 hp / 149 kW) and 441 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque.
