Kirt and Jen used to live in a spacious farmhouse in Tennessee, but sold its entire estate in January 2021 to go on a journey with their two small kids. They are still seeing the world from their homemade camper based on the Ram 5500.
Asked about the reasons for the change of lifestyle, the head of the family explained that he and his wife felt their relationship and raising kids were more important in their life than earning money or buying things. Thus was the decision made to go sightseeing on board of a modified truck.
The Ram 5500 took two months to complete and was ready to go in March 2022. It cost $65,000 for the base vehicle, $15,000 for the camper module, and another $50,000 for the installation and equipment. This brought the total expenses to a cool $130,000.
The camper seems spacious enough for a family of four and carries up to 97 gallons (368 liters) of fresh water on board, enabling the family to disconnect from civilization for several weeks on end. Its solar panel array generates 1,850W of power, and the fuel tank is 88.8 gallons (336 liters) large.
