RC replica of the six-wheeled Tyrrell P34 sells for $22k

Someone has just paid U.S. $22,000 a 1:3 reproduction of the famous six-wheeled Formula 1 car, the Tyrrell P34. Despite being a replica, the car packs a small V8 running on methanol and can be controlled remotely.

Unlike most racecars, the P34 has four small rear wheels instead of two normal-sized ones. The original car (see video) started its career back in 1976 and has scored 14 podiums in 30 races.

The downsized replica seen here was built by a citizen of Amsterdam, Netherlands based on a Bouland Motors engine. It strives to imitate the 3.0-liter Cosworth mill while having only 76cc to work with. It comes equipped with as many as eight carburetors and runs on methanol fuel with an added 6% of oil.

Aside from a functional powertrain, the RC car boasts a working suspension based on coilovers, an adjustable rear wing, an exhaust system with two tailpipes and disc brakes. The remote control is included and comes in a separate box for easy storage. Some spare parts are available as well.
