French carmaker Renault seems determined to prioritize the development and production of self-driving cars. We have already been shown such autonomous concepts as the EZ-GO, EZ-Ultimo, EZ-Pro, and EZ-Flex. Today, their company is joined by the miniature EZ-Pod.
According to the manufacturer, the vehicle is optimally suited for short trips. For instance, it can be useful for navigating an enclosed space getting to wherever you parked your main car. Coming equipped with an electrical powertrain, it looks like a good choice for nature reservations and resorts, too.
The car uses the Renault Twizy chassis and has two seats. It is so tiny it occupies less than three square meters (32 sq. ft.) on the road, meaning greater maneuverability in tight spots, such as downtown areas.
As a fully autonomous vehicle, the Renault EZ-Pod lacks any kind of conventional car controls. Its cruise speed is rather low, as it has to rely on its radars, lidars, GPS and frontal camera to find the route.
Other than that, the company remains tight-lipped about its latest EZ. It never even mentions where it is going to test the prototypes before production.
