The Renault Triber is an affordable compact van for India

French car manufacturer Renault has expanded its product range to include a new affordable model, the compact van called Triber. The car targets the Indian market and comes in two variants with five and seven seats, respectively.

The Renault Triber utilizes the same CMF-A car platform as the Kwid SUV. Despite technically categorized as a van, it measures under four meters (13.1 ft.) long and is therefore eligible for tax deductions in India.

To be more specific, the car is 3,990 millimeters (13.09 ft.) long, 1,739 mm (5.71 ft.) wide and 1,643 mm (5.39 ft.) tall with 2,636 mm (8.65 ft.) separating the axles. The road clearance amounts to 182 mm (7.1 inches). Depending on whether the seats are folded down, the trunk area varies between 84 and 625 liters (3 – 22 cubic feet).

The car comes equipped with parking sensors, a multimedia system with an 8-inch display and smartphone support, and another small display located next to the instrument cluster.

The van will initially ship with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine rated at 72 hp (54 kW), but a turbocharged version of the same engine will arrive in 2020. Transmission options include five-speed manual and five-speed automatic.

The launch is scheduled for late summer 2019, and industry pros expect the model to become back-ordered as soon as it comes out, since the compact van has no direct competition on the Indian market, unless you count the Datsun Go+.
