Renault launches the new Triber, an MPV with SUV-like looks

Renault has launched sales of its new Triber compact van in India. The car is based on the Renault Kwid platform, ships with a single engine rated at 72 hp (54 kW) and 96 Nm (71 lb-ft), and should come to South America and Southeastern Asia markets later on.

The only engine available right now works in tandem with a five-speed manual transmission, but a semi-automatic variant will also become available later. In 2021, Renault plans to release a stronger version of the Triber equipped with a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine.

The MPV uses the CMF-A chassis and tech and looks deceivingly like a crossover SUV. There are black moldings on the doors, the wheel arches boast plastic fenders, and there are railings on the roof. Finally, the road clearance amounts to a respectable 182 millimeters (7.1 inches).

By default, the car offers seats for seven passengers (2+3+2), but you can ask for a five-seat variant with the rear seats removed. Depending on whether you do, the trunk volume will vary between 84 and 625 liters (3 and 22 cubic feet, respectively).

The cheapest Triber comes priced at 495,000 Indian Rupees (approx. 6,900 USD). Included are two airbags, an air conditioner, a rear parking sensor, ABS, EBD, and 14-inch wheels. The top trim version adds a touch-enabled multimedia display, four airbags, a reversing camera, an engine start button, keyless entry and 15-inch rims.
