Renault has officially premiered the Morphoz Concept, a vehicle whose body can change its configuration and shape depending on the selected drive mode.
The all-electric SUV comes based on the innovative CMF-EV architecture created especially for EVs and supporting a wide variety of battery sizes, cabin layouts, and powertrains.
The show car uses a single electric motor rated at 136 PS (100 kW) and a battery holding 40 kWh of power. It can easily be fitted with a more powerful 218-PS (160-kW) engine and a 90-kWh battery. The former configuration would have around 400 kilometers (250 miles) of range, whereas the latter is manufacturer-rated at 700 km (435 miles).
One of the key properties of the concept car is its capability of auto-adjusting its dimensions and body kit depending on the driving conditions. The wheelbase slides to extend from 2,730 mm (8.96 ft.) to 2,930 mm (9.61 ft.) when necessary. The front wing changes its width, and the hood, the rear end and the lighting can transform, too.
Another advertised advantage comes in the form of flexible integration into the household power network. While not in use, you can plug the car into your house power grid to be used as a power source. You may also remove some of its battery modules and give them to another EV driver or otherwise use as an autonomous power source for outdoor lighting, etc.
