One out of three Renault 5 Turbo Superproduction racers goes on sale

Can a 33-year-old front-wheel drive hatchback armed with a meager 1.4-liter engine cost as much as £300,000? What about £350,000? Apparently, yes, if it is the inimitable Renault 5 Turbo Superproduction.

A total of six similar cars was built for the Supertouring championship in France in the 1980s. Only three of these received further improvements for the 1987 season, landing with reinforced safety cages, lower ground clearance and wider track. The 1.4-liter motor received a boost to 410 PS (404 hp / 302 kW) at 7,000 RPM.

The specific car currently on sale in Great Britain won the tournament in 1987, while the other two have long since retired to the Renault Museum in Paris, France.
