Renault to put its own badge on Lynk & Co hybrids

Geely and Renault have signed a cooperation agreement that extends on their primary markets of China and South Korea. Here’s what we know at this point.

Renault lacks part-electric cars in its model lineup and will be ‘lending’ the badge to the Chinese company. In return, Lynk & Co will be able to use the Renault-Samsung factory in South Korea to produce its own cars under its own branding.

The specifics of the deal remain unannounced. Lynk & Co offers plug-in hybrid variants of its models 01, 02, 03, 05, and 06 (illustrated here in the gallery and the video). Out of these, the 06 is the only one available as a mild hybrid (MHEV).

The French carmaker claims its goal is to rejuvenate sales in China, while Lynk & Co says it needs resources to conquer other rapidly growing markets of Asia. The two companies have never signed a cooperation agreement before, but both work with Daimler AG in one way or another. Specifically, Renault makes the Mercedes-Benz Citan, while Geely handles the production of Smart cars.
