Renault 4 Concept set to debut on October 17, 2022

Renault’s Four model, also known as 4L, was a wallet-friendly hatchback designed in the early 1960s to compete with the Citroën 2CV. It continued to be made until the mid-90, with a dozen factories all over the world having produced 8 million examples. It is now coming back.

The car will debut as a concept at the Paris Motor Show on October 17. In the meantime, here are some teaser images for us to study.

Since everything these days seems to be about SUVs and electric powertrains, the new Renault 4 ditches its internal combustion engine and gains some ground clearance compared to its historical prototype (see video). The images suggest that it also has massive off-road tires, square wheel arches, a roof rack, illuminated side sills, a bike rack in the back and trapezoid side mirror caps.

It remains open whether the car is a pure design study or a harbinger of a production SUV. We should learn more at the Paris show in two weeks.
