Light passenger pickups – or utes – are more of an exotic car type nowadays, but there are still drivers who would like a small truck to drive in the country and the city alike. For these, this converted 1987 Renault 5 GT could be a viable choice.
Prior to the conversion, the hatchback had three doors and two seat rows, but the rear row went away to make room for a truck bed. There isn’t very much luggage space available, especially not with the power brace and the subwoofer seen in the pics. On the other hand, the subcompact still fits some of the tightest parking places the Old World has to offer, and that has to amount to something.
Other notable modifications include a body kit with imitated R5 Turbo air intakes, 117-inch alloys and a fake carbon hood. The cabin makes use of two Recaro buckets along with a Momo wheel and a Pioneer audio system. The dashboard comes wrapped in Alcantara.
The seller mentions a heavily tuned engine, but no specifics beyond that. The odometer shows around 114,000 miles, or a touch over 180,000 kilometers. The ute is still drivable and available in the UK for a low price of £8,000.
