Renault has shared photos from the pre-production tests of its all-electric model 5. The sales are set to begin in 2024 from a rumored base price of €25,000.
The French carmaker is assembling the test vehicles in its technology HQ in Paris, but the mass production will take place in Douai. The prototypes shown here sport a finalized body design concealed under an intricate wrap – black with colorful outlines.
Judging by the overall design, the Renault 5 will look almost identical to its concept version (see video), except for some minor alterations like normal door handles, simplified headlights and regular side mirrors.
For the powertrain, the hatchback could get an electric motor with 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW). For batteries, Renault has 40-kWh and 52-kWh options in its portfolio, the latter rated at roughly 400 km (248 miles). The actual specifications are still pending, however.
