Renault will be holding a special event later this week during which it will unveil a prototype of an affordable electric car, Automotive News reports quoting its own sources.
Among other things, the event will be dedicated to the company’s Ampere division responsible for EV design and research. It is assumed that the EV will be presented to the audience by an Ampere representative.
Little is known about the car itself. According to the report, it will be smaller than the Renault 5 (shown in the gallery and the video here) and cost less than its starting price of $25,000. That said, the current Dacia Spring is expected to remain the cheapest Renault Group EV on the market.
In the French marque’s lineup, the newcomer will allegedly replace the Twingo model, which Renault mentioned wanting to discontinue a few years ago. As for the production, it is expected to start in Slovenia in 2026. Until then, Renault may as well continue producing the Twingo to avoid leaving a gap in the market.
