Renault Austral bows with 200 PS, AWD

After a large-scale teaser campaign, the new Renault Austral has finally arrived. It is the manufacturer’s first car based on the CMF-CD platform, and its mission is to replace the Kadjar offering an all-new exterior design and feature-packed cabin.

The Austral is 4.51 meters (176 inches) long and has 2.67 meters (104.3 inches) between the axles. Trunk size varies between 430 and 575 liters (15.2 – 20.3 cubic feet) with the rear bench standing. Power comes from a 1.2-liter turbo three-pot assisted by a mild-hybrid system for a total of 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW).

Choosy customers may opt for a petrol four-cylinder engine teamed up with a starter-generator and a lithium-ion battery. This drivetrain is available in two variants rated at 140 PS (138 hp / 103 kW) and 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW). Finally, there are two hybrid specs to choose from as well – 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW) and 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW).

The Austral is packed with modern tech, which includes a 9.3-inch heads-up display, a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital dashboard, LED Matrix headlights, a 360-degree camera, and various electronic assists.

Sales will start in late 2022, Renault says.
