Renault has announced that the second generation of its Captur mini-SUV would celebrate its first live appearance at a motor show before the end of the current year, most likely meaning the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. In the meantime, car spotters have discovered the new car rolling along the streets in southern Spain.
The test mule sports Clio-style narrow headlights, as well as a longer hood and a higher ground clearance. Chances are good that it will also borrow its interior design from the newest Clio.
The next-gen Captur takes advantage of the CMF-B modular architecture. The manufacturer does not reveal its engine palette at this time, but rumor has it that it gets three engines. One of these is a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged unit rated at 100 hp / 75 kW that you can buy with a five-speed manual transmission or an iVT. Another is a 1.3-liter turbo diesel that comes in a few different performance versions, and the third and last one is the 1.5-liter Blue dCi diesel.
Rumors also persist that the new Renault Captur will be available with a mild hybrid powertrain, likely encompassing a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, an electric motor and a tiny 1.2 kWh battery. That said, it might also get released as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that you will be able to charge from a wall socket. None of this is official, anyway, so let us be patient until the premiere.
