Renault has held a presentation event dedicated to the fifth generation of its Clio mini hatchback series. The car ended up being even smaller and lighter than its predecessor, but the manufacturer says there is actually more interior space in the new version.
Based on the CMF-B chassis, the 5th-gen Clio is 4,048 mm (13.3 ft.) long, 1,798 mm (5.9 ft.) wide and 1,440 mm (4.7 ft.) tall. Its design philosophy follows that of the new Megane and the Symbioz Concept.
The upcoming Renault Clio will ship with a ten-inch digital dash and a hi-end infotainment system with satellite navigation in base.
Owing to a newly introduced seat design, the rear passengers now enjoy 26 mm (1”) more legroom, and there is slightly more trunk space as well.
The engine palette now includes a one-liter, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine available in 64 hp / 48 kW and 75 hp / 51 kW versions, as well as its turbocharged counterpart available with 100 hp / 75 kW and 130 hp / 97 kW. If you would rather prefer diesel, there are two engines rated at 85 hp / 63 kW and 115 hp / 86 kW, accordingly.
Later on, Renault will expand the Clio family to include a high-end RS trim based on a hybrid between a 90-hp (67-kW) gasoline engine and an electric motor contributing another 40 hp (30 kW).
