1st-gen Renault Duster bites the dust

The first generation of the Renault Duster had stayed in production in India when the second generation debuted in Europe, but the assembly lines finally stopped in that country, too.

The India-spec Duster Mk1 even received a facelift in the summer of 2020, gaining a new appearance and a 1.3L turbo CVT option. With the first generation discontinued for good, India will be left with no Duster on the market: the second generation won’t be made there, either. Instead, Renault bets on its compact SUV Kiger and minivan Triber to suit the tastes of the local customers.

Thus ends the 12-year-long history of the Duster, which originally went into production under Dacia branding in Romania in 2010. It also used to be assembled in Indonesia and Columbia.

Although the affordable crossover is no more, some of its clones remain available in select countries. For instance, the Nissan Terrano available in Russia is a rebadged Duster, as is the Duster Oroch in Brazil.
