Rumor: Renault considers bringing the cheap K-ZE EV to Europe

Renault premiered its Kwid compact hatchback in 2015. Based on the CMF-A architecture, it was initially only available in India, but Brazil followed two years later. As for China, the carmaker brought a fully electric version of the Kwid there, called the K-ZE. Neither is available in Europe right now, but the situation may change soon.

According to the latest rumors, the K-ZE will soon be available to pre-order in Europe with much better standard equipment than its Chinese counterpart and more driving range.

Oddly enough, the rumor claims the range might be increased to 250 km (155 miles), but this doesn’t add up, given that the Chinese version already has 271 km (168 miles).

The China-sold K-ZE has 45 hp (34 kW) of power, 125 Nm (92 lb-ft) of torque, cannot go beyond 105 km/h (65 mph) and needs seven seconds to accelerate to 60 km/h (37 mph).

It is possible that the EV will emerge with the Dacia badge slapped on, like the current Duster, Logan, Sandero, Logan MCV Stepway, and Sandero Stepway.

Prices in Great Britain will allegedly start at £10,000. Production will occur in China. This is indirectly confirmed by Renault mentioning last year that it wanted to launch a £10,000 EV in Europe.

Customers in Europe currently have a choice between two Renault EVs – the Zoe, which is a five-door hatchback, and the Trizy, which is a two-seat quadricycle. The Zoe starts from £21,920 in Great Britain.
