Renault gets its Megane RS Trophy-R ready for another record

Back in 2014, the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R set a new world record in the “Front Wheel Drive” category by completing the North Loop of the Nürburgring Circuit in Germany in 7 minutes 54.3 seconds. The car came powered by a 275-hp (205-kW) strong engine.

A while later, a Honda Civic Type R dethroned the Trophy-R by finishing the lap in 7 minutes 43.8 seconds. But Renault is not going to surrender easily and is already testing an improved build of the car in Nürburgring.

Based on the photo, the Trophy-R Mk2 sports a vented hood with a bulging motor dome, something that its predecessor did not have. There is a white pinstripe running along the red body of the car.

Inside, there is now a roll cage taking up the space of the second seat row. We assume that the manufacturer has stripped the vehicle of all extra equipment, including the air conditioner, the noise proofing and other similar things.

The updated Renault Megane RS Trophy-R will enter the track packing a revised version of its 1.8-liter engine, this time with 300 hp (224 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lbft) at its disposal. It will also get several technical modifications, including tuned suspension with stiffer shock absorbers, stronger brakes, and other pro sports-oriented features like that.

The company says it will attempt to set a new record time later this year.
