Renault Megane RS Trophy-R gets caught in the nude

We’ve already seen some photos of the camo-cladded Renault Megane RS Trophy-R hatchback in March, and today we may finally throw a glance at the vehicle in its full glory.

Car spotters have found it making circle after circle on the Nürburgring Circuit. Everything looked like Renault was filming an official promotional video for the car that accelerated to top speeds, made sharp curves, and raised merry hell with its screaming engine and smoking tires.

The new performance trim of the Megane hatch features black alloy wheels, Trophy-R badges and graphics on the doors, a hood with a black powerdome in its middle, red bumper inserts mimicking those of Formula One racecars, and heavy-duty brake mechanisms.

It also goes without saying that the Megane RS Trophy-R is both stronger and lighter than the standard-issue car, and even sacrifices its rear bench in favor of a roll cage. It is also missing anti-fog lights in the front bumper, a tradeoff the company admits it had to make to deliver as much cool air to the engine as possible.

As for the engine power, it remains suspiciously unclear just whether Renault offers an upgrade for that. The stock Megane RS Trophy drivetrain pushes out 296 hp (221 kW) and 400 Nm (298 lbft) of torque linked to a six-speed manual transmission. Even if the Trophy R shows no improvement over these figures, it will probably sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) considerably faster due to its reduced weight and tuned chassis.
