Imagine you are a car spotter / spy photographer. What would you expect from a trip to the Sierra-Nevada mountain range in Spain? The guys who went there yesterday returned with pics of a camo-wrapped 2020 Renault Megane Grandtour/Estate. Is it a knack?..
Judging by the photos, the facelifted car sports a redesigned front apron, headlights and radiator grille. There are slight changes to the rear bumper and the taillights, too.
The current (fourth) generation of the Renault Megane has been around since 2015. Much has happened since the sales launch. Engines changed (a new 1.7 Blue dCi 150 arrived this spring), and the Megane RS Trophy-R even set a new Nürburgring lap time record in the FWD Vehicle category. Before the next generation rolls in, Renault intends to release a hybrid-powered Megane Mk4.
A while ago, we spotted multiple Megane hatchbacks (the series also includes sedan/saloon and estate/wagon variants) running road tests. The cars had two openings at the rear end – one obviously for the fuel tank, the other most likely for the electric charger port. While no official powertrain specs have been revealed so far, it stands to reason that the French carmaker will want to reuse the Captur powertrain for the hybrid Megane. Specifically, we are talking about a PHEV configuration here, which comprises two electric motors, a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, and a 9.8 kWh traction battery sufficient for around 45 kilometers (28 miles) of al-electric range. That said, a mild-hybrid version might also join the lineup later on.
Everything indicates that the 2020 Renault Megane facelift will debut at the 2019 International Motor Show Germany on September 12.
