Renault announces “the Renaulution”

The Mitsubishi-Renault-Nissan Alliance revealed its strategy this spring, and now, Renault CEO Luca de Meo offers a more in-depth look at the changes.

The executive will present a detailed report on January 14, 2021, but its key points are already known. As you can guess by the title, “Renaulution”, a major shift of priorities is coming up this time around.

The new main focus is economy: Renault says it will no longer invest into proprietary tech solutions that it can otherwise just license from its Japanese partners for less. This will lead to a 30% reduction in product range, but the company will strive to implement the change so that neither its market share nor sales volumes are affected.

The C-class, which boasts the largest customer base and is the most profitable at the moment, will be responsible for 25-30% of total Renault vehicle sales by mid-2020s. This will include the new Megane based on the Megane eVision Concept (peek inside our gallery and watch the video for more).

The brand will still strive to come up with innovative tech solutions that can reduce its dependence on third-party vendors and suppliers. Finally, it will attempt to diversify its business beyond car production.
