Renault Megane EV-SUV spotted testing just ahead of premiere

Renault will introduce its compact electric CUV version of the Megane in a few days’ time, so these spy photos could very well be the last ones before the big reveal. Curiously enough, the car was spied testing next to its main rival, the VW ID.4.

The Megane EV is a production car based on a namesake concept introduced in October 2020. A white caption near the front fenders says it has a 60-kWh traction battery and an electric motor rated at 160 kW (218 PS / 215 hp).

Elsewhere, the test prototype has pull-out handles that are both trendy and aerodynamic, large wheels, the new Renault logo, slim headlights, and oddly shaped standalone DRLs. The rear window is rather small because the roofline is considerably sloped at the rear end where the roof transitions into a spoiler.

A closer look reveals that unlike the ID.4, Skoda Enyaq and Audi Q4 E-Tron, the Megane EV actually has disc brakes instead of drum brakes.

The launch is expected in 2022.
