Renault Megane EV leaks ahead of premiere

It looks like someone at Renault posted the official images of the company’s newest electric car, the Megane E-Tech. Check out especially the interior with two giant screens and an unusually shaped steering wheel.

The Megane E-Tech is slated for shipment in the first half of 2022 and comes based on the same CMF-EV platform as the Nissan Ariya. There is still no information on how large it is, but it could be more compact than the Ariya.

Overall, the exterior of the car reminds us of the Megane eVision Concept from the last year (see video). Exceptions include headlights, side mirrors instead of cameras, and normal door handles in the back.

The interior is the latest Renault fare, dominated by an L-shaped front panel unit comprising a digital dashboard and a vertical infotainment display. Hardware controls are still present, though – look for a rocker under the touchscreen, for example. Elsehwere, there is immersive ambient lighting, wood inserts, and contrast stitching on the dash panel.

Power for the Megane E-Tron comes from a single electric motor good for 217 PS (214 hp / 160 kW) and to battery options – 40 and 60 kWh. The latter translates into 470 kilometers (292 miles) of WLTP-rated driving range.

A high-end Megane EV specification is also in development. Renault remains tight-lipped about the details, but chances are good that it will have AWD.
