Renault Sport unveiled new Megane RS performance hatchback less than a year ago. Its extreme modification, called Trophy, premiered earlier today.
The engineers have slightly improved the stock 1.8-liter engine of the vehicle by fitting it out with a turbocharger with ceramic ball bearings. As a result, the engine became more responsive to throttle. The exhaust system received an electronically-controlled valve that can straighten up the gas flow and thus reduce the resistance. All in all, the modifications resulted in a 20 hp / 15 kW performance increase to a total of 300 hp / 224 kW.
Driven by a manual transmission, the Renault Megane RS Trophy accelerates 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.7 seconds, which is 0.1s better than its standard counterpart can do. Its top going speed equals 261 km/h (162 mph).
The “hot hatch” comes equipped with bimetallic brakes and 19” wheels clad in Bridgestone Potenza tires. Lightweight wheels are available as an option.
The extreme Renault Megane RS Trophy series will ship in early 2019. There is no price information available yet, but the normal RS series sells for €37,600.
