According to Drive.com.au referencing Renault Australia GM Glen Sealey, the company will be pulling the high-end Megane R.S. hatchback from its international lineup for good.
Sealey is quoted saying the market for fuel-powered cars continues dwindling, so turning the iconic hot hatch into an EV would make more sense than producing another ICE generation. He emphasized that it this understanding of priorities is universal for Renault as a whole, not just its Australian branch.
The latest Renault Megane R.S. in the Trophy-R spec (shown in the gallery and the video here) won the Fastest FWD Car of the North Loop award a couple of years ago. Renault already has a battery-powered version of the standard hatchback on offer – the Megane E-Tech Electric debuted a year ago. In all likelihood, the high-end electric substitute of the Megane R.S. is already in development.
