Renault has come to the IAA Mobility show with the fifth generation of its Scenic minivan – except it is now a crossover SUV running on electric power. Live sales should begin in early 2024, the company says.
The Scenic E-Tech shares the architecture with the Nissan Ariya and comes with two powertrains to choose from. The base model utilizes a single motor rated at 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW) and 280 Nm (214 lb-ft). It has 60 kilowatt-hours’ worth of battery cells and covers up to 420 km (261 miles) on a charge.
The more expensive spec produces 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque from a single motor and gets 610 km (379 miles) out of its bigger 87-kWh battery pack.
The new Scenic sports an aggressive exterior with Renault Rafale-inspired headlights and an original radiator grille. The wheels also look unusual and futuristic.
Inside, the digital dashboard is 12.3 inches large and the infotainment screen is actually a bit smaller at just 12 inches. A multi-function armrest has been added to the back row to enable smartphone charging. Ambient lighting has also made it into the feature list.
