Rimac, a Croatia-based company best known for its extreme supercars, is planning to expand its portfolio with a self-driving taxi, Carscoops reports. It should be formally introduced in a few months and hit the roads of Europe by 2026.
All specifics are still secret. Everything suggests that HKG Group, which invested $80 million in Rimac in 2019, will take part in the project. Back when the partnership deal was concluded, the companies said EVs were their main focus, but admitted that self-driving technology was also ‘promising.’
Later this year, the automaker plans to put multiple autonomous taxi prototypes on the streets of its home city, Zagreb. Its UK branch is scheduled to join in on the tests later. In the second half of 2025, the robotaxi fleet is expected to reach Germany as well. According to the report, agreements have already been reached with the authorities of five European cities, and negotiations were in progress with 35 more.
While it didn’t provide any actual details, Rimac did call its self-driving car ‘a revolutionary means of transportation based on a brand-new platform prioritizing safety and comfort.’ Some time ago, car paparazzi tracked down one of the company’s autonomous test mules wearing Renault Espace bodywork (see video).
