Rimac launches a new factory to produce its 1,900-HP C_Two EV

Croatia-based electric car manufacturer Rimac Automobili plans to piece together 150 units of its new C_Two hypercar – a serious challenge for such a small company. Today, it makes a big step towards that goal, opening a new production facility near the village of Veliko Trgovišće.

According to the manufacturer, this move will reduce the unit production time from ten to five weeks. By organizing parallel production lines, Rimac hopes to be able to churn out four hypercars each month.

The C-Two debuted two years ago as a quad-engined, street-legal vehicle capable of 1,914 hp (1,427 kW). The prototype needed 1.9 seconds to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill, 4.3s to get to 161 km/h (100 mph) and 11.8s to 300 km/h (186 mph). Its claimed limit was 412 km/h (256 mph). The final production version of the car should stay true to all the specs of its concept predecessor.

The first crash tests were conducted in 2019, and road tests are underway now. To achieve the legally required degree of homologation, Rimac has to produce another 23 pre-production copies of the car. The company had hoped to do so as soon as possible and start actual shipments early this year, but Covid-19 pushed the launch timeframe back into 2021.
