Rivian patents a kitchenette for the R1S

Media have unearthed a patent application in the U.S. Patent Office database describing a mobile kitchen set for the all-electric Rivian R1S. The car manufacturer submitted it along with schematics and photos.

The kitchenette looks typical for such products, but has been designed specifically for the R1S. It contains a number of drawers and a large tabletop that you are supposed to pull out and unfold for using.

Based on the illustrations, a two-burner stove is also included. This implies that the kit is plugged into the electric grid of the SUV during installation. That, or it uses gas instead of electricity – but it seems unlikely in a Rivian vehicle.

There are also visible rails mounted at the sides, probably to facilitate installation and removal. Perhaps the whole kitchen set can be removed from the trunk or moved further inside to free up some luggage space. There is also a small water pump with a hose and a water tank – it could be useful both for washing the dishes and taking a shower outdoors.

It is worth remembering that Rivian had offered a similar feature for the R1T truck – you will find it in the gallery and the video below. However, due to the $5,000 asking price, it was unpopular and went discontinued soon after the launch.
