Budding carmaker Rivian has announced that its R1S electric SUV and R1T pickup truck would arrive half a year later than expected – allegedly because the company has decided they must be on par with Lincoln, Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini.
According to CEO Richard Vaughan, the company wants to forsake its initial focus on purely utilitarian interiors in favor of true luxury and comfort, which should find expression both in the materials used and in the ways the occupants interact with the car.
The R1t pickup is now slated to hit the showroom floors in June 2021, followed by the launch of the R1S SUV. Both pack four engines joining efforts for 760 hp (567 kW) and 1,120 Nm (826 lb-ft) total. Of the three battery sizes on offer, the largest is 180 kWh. The truck has 645 kilometers (400 miles) of range and hits 97 km/h (60 mph) in three seconds flat.
