Rivian has fallen on hard times lately, with its R1S SUV and R1T truck postponed in production until summer 2021 and both Ford and Lincoln turning down cooperation offers. Still, the company seems to keep its spirits up: one of the recently posted test vehicle shots reveals what looks like a new Double Cab variant of the truck.
We have only seen the R1T Crew Cab version so far. It looks like its smaller counterpart features a shorter wheelbase and smaller rear doors. It remains to be seen whether those doors open against the traffic or not, and the company reveals no specs so far.
According to Rivian CEO Robert Scaringe, there will be two R2 compact models based on a shortened chassis and a number of R3 EVs on a different platform. As such, the car shown might be called R2T.
Both the Rivian R1S and R1T come powered by quad motorized wheels jointly rated at around 800 hp (600 kW). Going from zero to 97 km/h (60 miles per hour) should take around 3 seconds with this kind of power.
The R1S will be the first to hit the U.S. market in its Launch Edition guise priced from $77,500. A lower-end spec called Explore is slated to arrive next January priced from $77,000. Both will offer 482 km (300 miles) of range.
The R1T truck will also debut with the Launch Edition in June, priced at $75,000 and above. The Explore spec should come in January priced at $67,500. An optional Max Pack will extend the range to 644 km (400 miles), bumping the sticker to $77,500.
