Rivian CEO posted a curious video on his social pages, featuring an R1T pickup truck driven through a dedicated test pool with water sloshing around its headlamps.
Apparently, the testing crew wanted to check how well the electronics of the R1T would perform after wading water this deep, and locate any possible leak spots. The actual depth of the pool was never specified, but it looks like slightly over a meter (40 inches) deep.
Of course, such performance is downright impressive, and hardcore adventure lovers will certainly appreciate it. The question, however, is when this may happen: not a single Rivian vehicle has rolled off the assembly lines so far. The production had been slated for 2020, then postponed until June 2021, then pushed back until late summer, and with the summer ending within hours, Rivian says it still has a few things to clear up with the industry regulators before it can proceed with the manufacturing.
