Rivian targets 1,000,000 annual EVs

Electric carmaker Rivian will try to achieve a production volume of one million vehicles per year, CEO RJ Scaringe said in an interview.

The way things are, the Californian startup company only has one factory located in Normal, Illinois, with a capacity to produce 150,000 cars per year at most. Even after its planned upgrade, the location will max out at 200,000 cars. Right now, the company only assembles the R1T pickup, but will start producing the R1S SUV and a delivery van series for Amazon before the end of the year.

New production sites appear mandatory for Rivian to expand its business to the target number mentioned above. On the other hand, the company has plenty of funding right now following a successful IPO.
