Rivian R1T assists surgery by providing power during blackout

Dr. Christopher Young wrote in his Twitter that he had to use his electric pickup truck as a source of power for a surgical intervention when his clinic suddenly lost power, possibly marking the world’s first EV-assisted surgery.

A patient came into the clinic to have a vasectomy (a urological operation) when the lights suddenly went out. A colleague suggested the doctor use his truck to supply the power to the medical equipment needed.

After securing the patient’s consent, he plugged his R1T to the equipment using an extension cord. The operation was a success.

In case you didn’t remember, the Rivian R1T comes with as many as four conventional US-standard power sockets. Two of these reside in the cabin and two more can be found in the truck bed.
