IIHS, a U.S.-based non-commercial organization financed by car insurance companies, has awarded the Rivian R1T its highest possible score for safety, the Top Safety Pick+.
The electric pickup truck passed all six tests with flying colors, as the video below clearly demonstrates. It is an extremely rare and hard-to-obtain achievement, partially because designing a robust front end to withstand head-on collisions is challenging in many ways. Still, the R1T does have a highly sophisticated collision prevention system that appears to work well with other cars and pedestrians alike, the experts have found.
The Rivian R1T became the first mass-produced electric trucks to reach the market, coming ahead even of the F-150 Lightning. The segment is gradually getting populated by the GMC Hummer EV as well, and the Chevrolet Silverado EV should join the list soon.
