Rivian switches to Tesla charger standard

Rivian Automotive has signed an agreement with Tesla Inc. to use its patented EV charging technology and infrastructure.

Starting next spring, all owners of the R1T truck and R1S SUV will be able to top up their batteries at Supercharger stations throughout the United States and Canada. Around 12,000 charging terminals will be made available in total thanks to a special power adapter.

Two years into the future, Rivian plans to ditch the adapter and switch to Tesla-standard charging ports in newly released cars.

Tesla is on track to making its charging infrastructure the national standard in the USA with such automotive giants as Ford and General Motors already backing up the initiative.
